Hi I’m Angeline Cataquiz. 17 years old. An Grade 11 Home Economic student of Lemery Senior High School. I will take this oppurtunity to share my opinion about the K-12 program of DepEd and i also want to share my struggles, challanges and my ups and downs since i started Senior High School and how will i going to cope up with them. And how challanges make me in a better person. Not long ago, the concept of senior high school was a blur. High school only lasted for four years and before that, most schools had only six or seven years for grade school. Since the fulfilling of the K-12 system in the Philippines, the whole school educational system had changed. What used to be only ten years of studying has now become twelve, with the two additional years now being referred to as ‘Senior High School’ or SHS. During this period, students are given the opportunity to choose from different tracks like academic, sports, arts and design, and technical-vocational-livelihood. The SHS has definitely raised a lot of questions, and even if it’s been around for a while, some people are still not aware of what SHS really is. The DepEd hopes that the 2 additional years will be able to teach students with the skills and knowledge they need for the next big step of their like college, when applying, entrepreneurship or further technical and vocational training.
Senior highschool program of DepEd is successful. Why? Because your choosen track for senior highschool will prepare you for college and university education. Overall, you are expected to gain a holistic, fundamental foundation on the general education subjects in line with your chosen career path. Its easy to apply for work when you take assesment and got passed. If you passed you will recieve National Certificate 2(NC2) But this will happen when your under in Technical Vocational Livelihood. Iyon ang ikinaganda ng TVL.
When i was younger i always dreamed to be a successful chef someday. I love cooking. I always want to cook. I remembered when my mother was cooking i keep asking nonsense question about sa niluluto nya. I was curious back then. And when we’re at department store nakakita ako ng laruan na lutu lutuan. So out of the curiousity nagpabili ako sa mother ko. And noong nasa bahay na kami i immediately opened my toy and nilaro ko agad. Nagiimagine lagi ako na i own restaurant and im the chef. I always imagined that. Na nagmamayari ako ng napakalaking restaurant. And when i finish my junior high school and the enrollment for grade 11 comes and i dont know why i enrolled my self in ABM since i dont like that strand and im not into it. So nagpalipat kami ng mga kaibigan ko sa Home Economics.
This is how my senior high school started, when i entered the classroom, I felt excited and i little bit nervous. Excited that i will be facing new classmates and be friends with them. Norvous that i will be facing new teachers. But the nervous i felt on the first day of school was slowly gone and filled with happiness. I was able to gained new freinds. Most of them are my schoolmates in my old school and some of them are transferees from other school. I really thought that my senior high school life would be boring but with my friend and new friends i can’t say that its boring. I really treasure every single days with them with their craziness in life. Months had passed, our friendship was stronger and stronger and until now we are continuing and sharing our craziness in life.
Home Economic track offer various specializations that can lead to livelihood projects at home. This strand aims to give you job ready skills that can help you in finding the right employment. Being Home Economic student is not that easy. But you will learn a lot. You can learn on how to bake. You can also do it in your house. This is the advantage of this strand. I realized that baking is not easy you need to measure the ingredients accurately pag nagkamali ka ng isang ingridients mali na lahat. In my other subjects, at first i thought it will be very hard. Lalo na sa math. Because i don’t like math. Pero akala ko lang pala yon. Math is easy kung iintindihin mo. Yes. In this track you may face challanges and ups and downs. Kapag hindi mo agad naintindihan ang lesson. And when you had a personal problem maapektuhan ang performance mo sa school. Better yet do not take your problem at school.
I have many struggles since i started senior highschool. Dati noong high school paeasy easy lang. But here in SHS hindi na pwede. You have to study and study and study. I do not have enough time management especially kapag nagkakasabay sabay ang pinapagawa ng teachers. You do not pass the other project that needed to pass on that time. And the other problem na kailangan kong baguhin is im shy. Im not confident sa lahat ng mga ginagawa. A.K.A ‘Nega’. I always think my work is uncorrectly. Wala akong tiwala sa sarili. I always ask the permission of others if my work is right. And iyon ang kailangan kong baguhin. From now on gagawin ko na agad ang dapat kong gawin. I will trust myself from now on.
From what i learned, ‘When life gets harder challange yourself to be stronger’ Do not give up sa mga hindi natin kayang gawin agad. Try try until you succseed.
